Cameras in smartphones are going pretty danged good, but there’s still no replacement for the ridiculous focal range, excellent depth of field, beefy sensor size, and amazing high quality of a DSLR camera and may include a lens kit.

Nowadays, real photographers and travelers who travel a lot and go from one city to another, who know the worth of DSLR cameras, use these cameras for capturing high-quality pictures and recording videos.

But the major problem is carrying your heavy and valuable expensive DSLR camera, you need to properly guide how you pack your camera very safely. Here are some tips and guides about travel with your DSLR!

Tips to Travel With Camera

Purchase a Good Camera Bag

One of the big safe methods to pack your camera and travel anywhere is to purchase a good bag, think to consider when buying a bag, you buy a bag that does not get attractive to another person, avoiding too many bright colors and big logos.

The main thing which a camera bag provides is comfort and convenience, you should select one with padded straps of just the precise length. At last, buy a bag with quality material.

Take Off the Lens

If you have a camera with a detachable lens, don’t travel with the lens still connected to the camera body. If you forget to separate the lens, you may cause some serious damage to the threads that are used to hold the lens to the camera body.

So after detaching the lens, pack the body and lens distinctly, using the proper caps with both units. These caps should be in your original box if you still have them.

Plastic Covers

Any kind of plastic bag that can tighten over your DSLR camera’s body and seal out liquid yet still allows you to access the buttons will suffice. This is perfect for rain shoots as it secures your camera. You can purchase handy camera covers in photography supply stores.

Turn It Off

The one good thing is to consider taping your DSLR’s power toggle switch into the “off” position. It is a safe mode when you do not use it for a long time. And also get out your battery from the camera, so it will not damage the battery overall.

Create Makeshift Padding Out of Clothing

Camera bags cost money, and you may not want to spend it. You can’t travel around with a camera without shielding it, though, unless you want to take a huge risk.

If you only plan to take your camera body and a lens or two, you can generate sufficient padding with the clothes you’ll likely have in your suitcase already.

Just encircle your camera body with clothes and also lenses separately in several shirts and pack the objects in the middle of the bag. So long as you take one lens with your camera, you won’t really need a bag to carry it all around when you actually arrive at your destination.

This is not a very good idea, but somehow it is working. We recommend you purchase a bag for your camera. Because it will totally protect your camera.

Clean Your Camera Daily

Your lens is not air-tight, it requires moving in and out to zoom, which enables air in and out too. It will return horrible results if your lens has a lot of dust internally.

So take care of your camera and lens and try to clean it before and after when you use it and keep your lens covered when you’re not using it. It will give you a company of many years if you take care of it.

Bring a lens cleaning kit

A cleaning kit is a good idea to clean your camera. So, don’t forget to bring a lens cleaning kit with you in order to clean any dust, marks, or sand that may have gotten onto your lens.

Use Silica Gel Packs to Avoid Moisture

Silica gel is a good thing to bring with your bag to avoid any moisture. This is already placed in the bag. But somehow, Pack one or two little silica gel packs in your camera bag, and rest assured that they’ll deceive moisture that gets in during transit.

Get Travel Insurance

No matter how careful you are, serious things can happen at any time. Get travel insurance to cover your butt if you lose or break your camera in transit. Every DSLR travel photographer we understand travels with at least some coverage.

This is a great thing and provides some facilities. This will give you some peace of mind if your photography stuff is damaged or stolen.

Closing Thoughts

We have provided some pieces of guide about your traveling with a DSLR camera, firstly go with the quality bag, separate all things and pack them separately (use a plastic cover for this purpose).

Lastly, always clean your camera to increase its age. Stay happy and have a safe journey with a good piece of camera.
